There is a simple yet paradoxical truth at the heart of transformative work:
The quickest way to have the biggest impact with your clients is to slow down.
A different kind of intelligence comes online when we pause and really drop in.
One that can see new pathways when there appear to be none, offer profound insight, and lead us on transformative journeys.
And yet, in today’s world of faster, better, more, it’s so easy to run past this source of wisdom.
So this week I want to explore why slowing down may become one of the most important capacities we have in the age of AI.
Too much too fast
We’re living in a time where everything is accelerating.
Information is instant. Answers are immediate. And AI can generate strategies, procedures, and predictions in seconds.
This is undoubtedly helpful — sometimes.
But instant access to infinite information creates a new kind of noise.
AI will never get tired of answering your questions. Never stop generating strategies. Never stop iterating.
There’s always more.
And sometimes we need less.
Because sometimes, the answers we’re looking for — and the ones our clients are looking for — can’t be found in a logical, procedural, strategic conversation.
The unexpected gift of AI
Maybe for us as coaches — and people passionate about our own evolution — the hidden gift of AI is in what it cannot do.
Because when we see what AI cannot do, we begin to see more clearly what makes us human.
And that is astonishing.
This is something Jim Dethmer spoke about beautifully in our Masterclass last week:
As AI becomes increasingly powerful in the realm of doing — strategizing, analyzing, generating, performing — perhaps it’s inviting us more deeply into being.
Into presence.
Into connection.
Into the deeper intelligence that only emerges when we slow down enough to listen.
Because when you pause, tune in, and let your very humanness guide you, something else becomes possible…
You’ll find that the body picks up on nuances. Two people, in deep connection, create a field between them. Your presence has a profound effect on those around you.
And you can begin to sense the deeper truth trying to emerge.
It’s like finding the acupressure point in a conversation — the exact place that, when touched, opens everything.
What matters most
In a world where we all have access to the same tools, strategies, and sea of information…
What begins to matter most is: Where you’re coaching from.
- The quality of your attention
- The depth of your presence
- The frequency you bring into the room
AI can’t guide you there, because it cannot feel.
But you already have the first step.
Slow down. Listen. Your internal guidance system is always there, underneath the noise.
I’d love to know what you learn from it.
With care,
Joel
